Costa del Sol is renowned for its beach parties and clubbing during summer. However, that’s not all that this delightful location in sunny southern Spain offers. This July, there is a host of activities in Costa del Sol, including festivals, gallery exhibitions and charity golf events.
Charity Golf Event: On 19th July 2014, the second edition of the Golf Global Gift Foundation Tournament will take place in Campo de Golf La Quinta Golf & Country Club in Marbella. This glitzy charity event is assisted by Eva Longoria, as well other Hollywood and Spanish celebrities. The proceeds this year will go to three main foundations: Eva Longoria Foundation, Bertin Osborne Foundation and the Global Gift Foundation. The Global Gift Foundation helps to provide medical attention, food, clothing and shelter to vulnerable children and women around the world.
Music Festivals: The Starlite Festival is a month-long musical and cultural extravaganza that will be held from 23rd July – 23rd August 2014 in Marbella. It is one of the biggest social and entertainment events in Spain, encompassing music, art, film, fashion and gastronomy in an outdoor venue under the stars. This year, some of the leading acts include The Beach Boys, Ricky Martin, Pet Shop Boys, Julio Iglesias, Tom Jones, Kool and the Gang and Alejandro Sanz. The event is usually wrapped up with the Starlite Gala, a star studded charity concert and dinner, which is hosted by local born celebrity Antonio Banderas.
The International Festival of Music and Dance will also take place at Nerja Caves from Saturday 19th July 2014 to Saturday 26th July 2014.
Gallery Exhibitions: For art lovers looking for activities in Costa del Sol, there are several exhibitions held in various galleries around Malaga city during July. The Carmen Thyssen Museum will showcase work from renowned Asturian painter Darío de Regoyos to mark the centenary of his death. Also, the Picasso Museum has an exhibition on Russian artist El Lissitzky called the ‘The Experience of Totality’, featuring his paintings, photographs, magazines, book designs etc.
Religious Festival: The Spanish love their religious festivals; there is something for everyone every month! On the 16th of July, the Virgen del Carmen Festival will be celebrated in fishing villages up and down the coast of Costa del Sol. In the city of Malaga, a huge effigy of the virgin is paraded around the streets, and taken out to sea at dusk on a flower adorned boat followed by a flotilla of fishing boats.
