Costa del Sol is renowned for its outdoor attractions such as beaches and natural beauty; however, visitors have plenty to see in the great indoors too. The southern Spanish region has an interesting selection of museums that are worth visiting; here are three of the most popular in Málaga:
Málaga Museum of Glass and Crystal: With a collection of over 3000 pieces of glass, spanning from Egyptian and Roman times to the present, the Málaga Museum of Glass and Crystal is one of a kind. What makes it so unique is that the museum is laid out over several rooms – each representing a different time period, with interesting guided tours by the owner that are informative and personal. One thousand exhibits from various eras and cultures are on permanent display, with the other pieces exhibited in rotation. The gorgeous glass and crystal objects are showcased in a home setting, surrounded by furniture and decorations corresponding with the time period of the particular exhibits.
Málaga Automobile Museum: This museum is interesting as it contains a winning combination of vintage cars and fashion. It houses a collection of 85 vintage and modern cars, displayed in thematic groups such as the Belle Epoque, The 20’s, Dream Cars, English Tradition and Tuning, as well as a Motor Gallery which depicts the engine as a work of art. For non-car enthusiasts, the museum has fashion exhibitions, featuring designer dresses and hats from 1900 onwards by designers such as Balenciaga, Chanel, Dior, Fortuny, Gucci, Valentino and YSL.
Art and Popular Customs Museum: This quaint museum is located in ‘Meson de la Victoria’, a former 17th century inn, and gives a valuable insight into the past ways and customs of people in Málaga. With tools on display from various trades such as iron making, wine making, fishing and baking, one can go back in time and visualise what life was like back then. There are several forms of art as well – beautiful posters of the past announcing the Málaga Fair, old costumes, religious art and clay figurines to name a few.
